Tourists on the hunt for the perfect selfie are jumping over garden fences and scaling walls in the Cotswolds

Tourists trying to take the perfect selfie have been spotted climbing over walls and jumping garden fences in a Cotswolds village.

Bibury is known as one of the most beautiful villages in England, but the large number of visitors is starting to annoy the locals.

Some tourists are behaving poorly, getting too close to people’s homes just to take pictures.

Bibury, located by the River Coln in Gloucestershire, is famous for Arlington Row, a group of cottages from the 14th century that even appear on British passports. It's one of the most photographed spots in the Cotswolds.

Residents have been complaining for a long time about how crowded the village has become, with cars and buses filling up the streets as they drop off large groups of tourists.

Though Bibury’s countryside and charming cottages attract visitors from everywhere, this has recently made locals feel bothered and mistreated. According to GloucestershireLive, some residents were even threatened by tourists last summer.

Over in Bourton-on-the-Water, another popular Cotswold village often called the "Venice of the Cotswolds," things got tense during the summer as well.

Anthony White, an 80-year-old local who used to live in San Francisco, said the noise and traffic caused by tourists in Bourton is worse than what he experienced in the big American city.

He said: "Since moving here a couple of years ago, I’ve been shocked by how bad the tourism problem is. It’s so noisy, not just from cars, but also from the crowds of people walking past our house in big groups. They just don’t care.

"People walk by in groups of 10 or more, all day and even late at night. I think something needs to be done to limit the number of visitors."

Remember - LeaveNoTrace!

As with anywhere outdoors, kindly keep these areas pristine and wild by taking all trash with you. The amount of complaints we have seen since the pandemic is crazy. It's really not that hard to take your rubbish with you!

Litter tends to spread, so if you see any and are able to pick it up and dispose of it outside the hidden gem, it will help keep the area tidy.
