With its lovely pool of water, this spot is perfect for a walk and a swim, and you can treat yourself to a cosy drink afterwards.
If you’re searching for a hidden gem to explore this weekend, there’s a special place in a peaceful corner of the UK that you should definitely check out.
Just a short distance from one of Wales’ most unusual pubs, you’ll find a hidden quarry nestled in the Preseli Hills.
This charming spot is in the small village of Rosebush, located in Pembrokeshire.
Even though the village has fewer than 400 residents, according to the latest census, it still manages to attract visitors from all around the world.
This is thanks to its amazing views, refreshing walks, and the historic Tafarn Sinc pub in the heart of the village, which always surprises first-time visitors.
Not far from this old pub, if you follow a dusty path, you’ll discover Rosebush Quarry.
The quarry was first opened in 1842 and expanded in the 1870s by a businessman named Edward Cropper. At one time, it was a major slate supplier for the whole of the UK.
A railway line was built in 1876 to carry slate from Rosebush, just 12 miles north of Narberth, to London. But, after the slate industry slowed down, the railway closed in 1908.
The railway stopped carrying passengers in 1937 and freight trains stopped running just over ten years later.
Today, the quarry is filled with water, and it’s a hidden treasure for walkers and brave swimmers who don’t mind a cold dip, as long as they stay safe.
Its appeal comes from how tucked away it is—this isn’t a place you’d just stumble across by accident!
Remember - LeaveNoTrace!
As with anywhere outdoors, kindly keep these areas pristine and wild by taking all trash with you. The amount of complaints we have seen since the pandemic is crazy. It's really not that hard to take your rubbish with you!
Litter tends to spread, so if you see any and are able to pick it up and dispose of it outside the hidden gem, it will help keep the area tidy.
