If you’re planning a spring staycation, one region in Scotland is being hailed as "the new Cornwall," offering beautiful beaches and fascinating historical landmarks.

Everyone dreams of their ideal holiday spot, whether it’s a charming fishing village or a cosy island tearoom with a peaceful garden.

If you’re struggling to decide, the south of Scotland, dubbed "the new Cornwall," might just be the perfect choice.

A survey of over 3,400 UK residents revealed that this part of Scotland has attractions similar to those in Cornwall and the Cotswolds, making it a hidden gem.

Despite this, many people are still unaware of what the area has to offer.

Research by Yonder found that 'metropolitan adventurers'—a group of well-off travellers worth £2.1 billion to the tourism market—are missing out on the south of Scotland’s unique attractions.

This group, who prefer short breaks to escape their daily routines, would likely love the region’s outdoor activities, scenic walks, cultural sites, and stunning landscapes.

History fans will enjoy highlights like Drumlanrig Castle in Dumfries and Galloway. Located on the Queensberry Estate, this 14th-century castle features an impressive art collection and gorgeous Victorian gardens.

For literature enthusiasts, Moat Brae in Dumfries is a must-visit. Once the home of Peter Pan author JM Barrie, it now hosts the National Centre for Children's Literature, a magical garden, and a delightful café serving homemade treats.

Whisky lovers will be drawn to the Annandale, Bladnoch, and Borders distilleries. Other notable attractions include the Borders Abbeys, Abbotsford, the Great Tapestry of Scotland, and the tranquil Loch Trool.

Remember - LeaveNoTrace!

As with anywhere outdoors, kindly keep these areas pristine and wild by taking all trash with you. The amount of complaints we have seen since the pandemic is crazy. It's really not that hard to take your rubbish with you!

Litter tends to spread, so if you see any and are able to pick it up and dispose of it outside the hidden gem, it will help keep the area tidy.
