This beach is known as one of the best in Europe, and even the world, but you might not have heard of it before.
Often called the "supermodel of British beaches", this hidden gem is regularly listed among Europe’s top spots. It’s just scored an impressive 9.26 out of 10 from outdoor travel experts, who say it’s the best beach in the UK for winter walks.
The beach stretches for miles, with soft sand, great waves for surfing, and tall cliffs that offer amazing views and walks.
The latest award came from GO Outdoors, who ranked the best winter beach walks using things like rainfall, temperature, daylight hours, and how popular they are. Rhossili easily beat the beach that came in second place.
Rhossili Bay is often picked as one of Europe’s best beaches, and it also pops up in lists of the best beaches in the UK and the world. It’s easy to get to, but still feels peaceful without big crowds.
With its wide sandy shore and gentle waves, Rhossili is a great place to visit any time of year. It’s perfect for families, walkers, and anyone wanting a quiet day by the sea.
Surfers love the Atlantic waves that roll in, while closer to shore, the water is calm enough for paddling or swimming.
There’s even an old shipwreck on the beach. The remains of the Helvetia, which crashed in 1887 while carrying timber, still stick out from the sand today.
The cliffs around the beach lead to a famous spot called Worm’s Head. If you’re lucky, you might spot cows, sheep, or even wild horses along the way.
Rhossili is also home to one of the most special places to stay in the UK; a National Trust house set right above the beach, offering stunning views.
In 2017, Rhossili was named one of the top ten beaches in the world, the only one in Europe to make the list alongside exotic places in Thailand, Hawaii, and Brazil.
