The secret West London park that's perfect for a cosy autumn stroll with coffee and cake

Updated: Oct 23

As the cold weather sets in, autumn walks with a warm pumpkin spice latte are becoming a must-do on weekends.

This hidden gem in West London is often known for being close to Craven Cottage, home of Fulham FC. But what many don’t realise is that the park also has a rich history and plenty to offer.

With a lovely riverside walk along the Thames, it is just a short distance from Putney Bridge Underground station, making it an ideal spot for an autumn stroll.

The park is popular with both runners and walkers, with large trees lining the walkway along the river, creating a beautiful autumn atmosphere. The flat, gravel paths make it accessible for all ages and abilities.

From the park, you can enjoy views of Putney and watch rowers from the Thames Rowing Club practising on the water. The historic Fulham Palace, once the home of the Bishop of London, is right next to the park.

Adding to the park’s calm, relaxing vibe are the cosy pubs and cafés nearby. The Tea House is a perfect spot for artisan coffee, brunch, and tasty treats.

You can grab a coffee and cake and take a relaxing walk through the park to soak up the autumn scenery. For something more filling, the Eight Bells, a 17th-century pub, offers traditional British food in a cosy setting.

Bishops Park first opened in 1893 and includes the areas known as Bishop’s Walk, Meadow, and West Meadow. In 1894, it was expanded to include Pryor’s Bank and its beautiful old gardens, which have been carefully preserved.

Today, Bishops Park is listed as Grade II on the parks and gardens register by English Heritage. You’ll also find beautiful stone sculptures scattered throughout the gardens.

Right next to the park is Fulham Palace, the historic residence of the Bishop of London since AD 704. The last Bishop of London to live there, Bishop Stopford, left in 1973.

Remember - LeaveNoTrace!

As with anywhere outdoors, kindly keep these areas pristine and wild by taking all trash with you. The amount of complaints we have seen since the pandemic is crazy. It's really not that hard to take your rubbish with you!

Litter tends to spread, so if you see any and are able to pick it up and dispose of it outside the hidden gem, it will help keep the area tidy.
