The Lake District is well-known for its breathtaking scenery, rich wildlife, and deep history, making it a favourite for many visitors. While Ambleside might be lesser-known, it certainly deserves a spot on your UK travel list.

Located in the historic county of Westmorland, in the Westmorland and Furness district of Cumbria, Ambleside sits at the head of Windermere, England's largest natural lake.

The village has a population of around 2,500 and is home to a variety of restaurants, shops, and cosy places to stay.

Nestled among the stunning Lakeland fells, Ambleside is perfect for hiking, cycling, mountaineering, and even water sports.

Though the area dates back to pre-Roman times, much of Ambleside has a Victorian charm, and you can explore the village by taking ferries or cruises around the lake.

The region experiences an oceanic climate, with higher rainfall than other parts of the North-West, adding to its lush, green landscape.

Ambleside appeals to both those seeking a relaxing break and visitors looking for outdoor adventures.

Food lovers will find plenty of great restaurants, pubs, and cafés, with award-winning ales to enjoy alongside your meal.

The area is known for its wild food, with ingredients like seaweed and forest-picked mushrooms used in local dishes. Specialities include Herdwick lamb, local sausages, and Windermere Char, a local fish.

Remember - LeaveNoTrace!

As with anywhere outdoors, kindly keep these areas pristine and wild by taking all trash with you. The amount of complaints we have seen since the pandemic is crazy. It's really not that hard to take your rubbish with you!

Litter tends to spread, so if you see any and are able to pick it up and dispose of it outside the hidden gem, it will help keep the area tidy.
