The world’s most beautiful ocean pools have been revealed, and two stunning locations in the UK have made the list—including one just two hours from London.
While the UK isn’t famous for its tidal pools, there are some breathtaking spots along the coastline, with two now recognised as among the prettiest in the world.
Ocean pools are a great way to experience wild swimming, offering all the benefits of the sea without the risks of strong currents or crashing waves.
With this in mind, Condé Nast Traveller has named the 14 most beautiful ocean pools across the globe, and two UK locations have made the cut.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, Australia dominated the rankings, with Bondi Beach’s famous Bondi Icebergs Club taking the top spot, along with six other Aussie pools making the list.
The first UK tidal pool to be featured was Cornwall’s Bude Sea Pool, ranking sixth, followed by Kent’s Walpole Bay Tidal Pool in 13th place.
Walpole Bay, near Margate, is just a two-hour journey from London by car or train, making it an ideal day trip for city dwellers looking for a coastal escape.
This man-made tidal pool was built in 1937, one of two constructed in Margate at the time, and is believed to be the largest of its kind in the UK.

In 2014, Walpole Bay Tidal Pool was granted Grade II-listed status, and a decade later, Margate Main Sands received the same recognition.
Visitors have been amazed by Walpole Bay’s beauty, with one reviewer on Tripadvisor writing: “Forget the Maldives with all that jetlag, sharks, overpriced drinks, and overly warm water. Head to Walpole Bay instead!”
Another added: “Brilliant free outdoor swimming spot—easy to get to and easy to use. I really hope it stays free for everyone to enjoy!”
A third joked: “Possibly the best place in the world, but let’s keep it a secret, ok? Walk along the wall and use the ladder to enter. For most adults, you can stand in the shallows. Biggest tidal pool in the UK!”
Remember - LeaveNoTrace!
As with anywhere outdoors, kindly keep these areas pristine and wild by taking all trash with you. The amount of complaints we have seen since the pandemic is crazy. It's really not that hard to take your rubbish with you!
Litter tends to spread, so if you see any and are able to pick it up and dispose of it outside the hidden gem, it will help keep the area tidy.
