Severe sewage alerts have been issued in North Wales

For those thinking of swimming in some of North Wales' best hidden gems, you may want to think again!


There are been seven sewage alerts over the last week across North Wales, according to the SAS (Surfers Against Sweage) website.


There are four along the North Wales coast, whilst two lakes in Eryri (Snowdonia) and a river is also affected.

SAS members have alerted the public via their latest website bulletin to pollution events over the last week.


These usually occur during bouts of heavy rain which put pressue on sewerage systems. The full list of sewage alerts for North Wales which are on the SAS webiste can be found below.



  1. Llyn Nantlle (Eryri): Pollution Alert: Storm sewage has been discharged from a sewer overflow in this location within the past 48 hours.

  2. Llyn Padarn: Pollution Alert: Storm sewage has been discharged from a sewer overflow in this location within the past 48 hours. The bathing water is located on the western side of Llyn Padarn, which is a fresh water lake in Eryri (Snowdonia). It is located close to the village of Llanberis with its cafes and other tourist attractions.

  3. River Ogwen - near Bethesda: Pollution Alert: Storm sewage has been discharged from a sewer overflow in this location within the past 48 hours.

  4. Llanfairfechan: Pollution Alert: Storm sewage has been discharged from a sewer overflow in this location within the past 48 hours. Llanfairfechan is situated on the North Wales coastline, 9.5 kilometres to the east of Bangor. It is a long sand and pebble beach, with a concrete promenade running the length of its rear.

  5. Colwyn Bay: Pollution Alert: Storm sewage has been discharged from a sewer overflow in this location within the past 48 hours. The bay is situated on the north Wales coastline, to the east of Rhos Point, approximately 10 kilometres from the Great Orme headland.

  6. Colwyn Bay Porth Eirias: Pollution Alert: Storm sewage has been discharged from a sewer overflow in this location within the past 48 hours. The bay is situated on the North Wales coastline, to the east of Rhos Point, approximately 10 kilometres from the Great Orme headland.

  7. Prestatyn: Pollution Alert: Storm sewage has been discharged from a sewer overflow in this location within the past 48 hours. Prestatyn beach is a long stretch of sand divided by sea defences.
