This breathtaking part of the country has something for every holidaymaker, from spotting seals to exploring charming seaside towns.

With its dramatic cliffs, sparkling turquoise waters, and soft white sand, you might mistake this corner of England for the Caribbean.

But this hidden paradise is a stunning destination known for its beautiful beaches and perfect for a staycation, whether in summer or winter.

The rugged coastline is sprinkled with secluded coves and traditional fishing villages, and the area’s geology is like nowhere else in Cornwall.

Beneath your feet, the bedrock is made of rocks that formed 350 million years ago. Jutting out into the Atlantic, this land is constantly shaped by the elements.

For centuries, the Lizard Peninsula has been the first glimpse of home for sailors returning from distant shores, and it often provides shelter for rare seabirds blown off course.

The region is also famous for its unique serpentine stone, a dark green rock streaked with red and white. Queen Victoria was so fond of it that she had a fireplace made from it at Osborne House on the Isle of Wight.

One of the area’s most spectacular beaches is Kynance Cove. Known for its striking rock formations, this beautiful spot is shaped by the green and red veins of serpentine stone, which form stacks, islands, and caves along the shore.

At low tide, you can walk among the caves and islands, but always check the tide times—it’s easy to get caught out and stranded.

There are no lifeguards at Kynance Cove, so if you’re planning a swim in the crystal-clear waters, take extra care.

The Lizard Peninsula is also home to the SEA LIFE Trust’s Cornish Seal Sanctuary, which welcomes visitors. Each year, the sanctuary rescues and rehabilitates over 70 seal pups while also providing a forever home for animals that need ongoing care from marine experts.

Remember - LeaveNoTrace!

As with anywhere outdoors, kindly keep these areas pristine and wild by taking all trash with you. The amount of complaints we have seen since the pandemic is crazy. It's really not that hard to take your rubbish with you!

Litter tends to spread, so if you see any and are able to pick it up and dispose of it outside the hidden gem, it will help keep the area tidy.
