Renowned travel guide National Geographic has unveiled its Best of the World 2025 travel list, and one Scottish destination has earned a coveted spot.
A region in Scotland has been recognised as one of the top travel destinations in the world by National Geographic for 2025.
On Tuesday, the iconic publication revealed its annual list of the Best of the World destinations for the coming year. This prestigious guide highlights top places and experiences, curated by Nat Geo Traveler editors from across the globe.
The Outer Hebrides was named one of National Geographic’s Best of the World destinations for 2025. It’s the only UK location to feature on this year’s list.
National Geographic praised the island chain off Scotland’s west coast for its stunning landscapes and rich cultural heritage. It also spotlighted visitor highlights like the Hebridean Way and the Hebridean Celtic Festival.
The Outer Hebrides has been a magnet for tourists worldwide, drawn by its gorgeous beaches, rugged coastline, and crystal-clear waters. The region is also celebrated for its vibrant culture, diverse wildlife, welcoming locals, and excellent food and drink.
These islands are no strangers to global recognition. Earlier this year, West Beach on Berneray was named one of Lonely Planet’s "100 of the World’s Most Incredible Beaches."
The Outer Hebrides also appeared in the Conde Nast Traveller 2024 Readers’ Choice Awards, securing a spot in the Best Islands in the UK category earlier this October.
Adding to its fame, the region will feature in a new BBC series An t-Eilean. Set to air in 2025, the crime drama follows four siblings who return to their family home after their mother’s death.
National Geographic commented: "The Oscar-nominated Banshees of Inisherin showcased Ireland’s western isles. Now An t-Eilean (The Island), a much-anticipated Scots Gaelic BBC drama, will shine a spotlight on Scotland’s Outer Hebrides, celebrating its dramatic landscapes and Celtic heritage."

As with anywhere outdoors, kindly keep these areas pristine and wild by taking all trash with you. The amount of complaints we have seen since the pandemic is crazy. It's really not that hard to take your rubbish with you!
Litter tends to spread, so if you see any and are able to pick it up and dispose of it outside the hidden gem, it will help keep the area tidy.
