Locals fear this hidden gem beach is turning into the 'UK's Ibiza'

Updated: Aug 2

This beautiful beach was dubbed one of Cornwall's 'best hidden gems' on Instagram. However locals fear the growing social media attention is turning a once under-the-radar beach into an overhyped attraction!

The beach has been celebrated for its turquoise waters and golden sands, in which it has seen an influx of visitors due to its popularity increasing online.

Residents nearby are concerned over the visitors seeking to recreate the Ibiza vibe in Cornwall, which has triggered numerous issues such as onsite brawls, fires, traffic jams and even dumped human waste.

The fear by locals is also escalated due to the fact there are no lifeguards on this beach known for his treacherous currents.

Locals are apprehensive that the growing footfalls are accelerating the erosion and deterioration of the region's beauty.

One local voiced his concerns when Pedn Vounder started trending back in 2018, he said "The world and his wife descended on West Penwith and Treen. We had gridlocked roads, emergency services could not function, the local bus network got jammed, neither the refuse removal services nor food delivery trucks could get to Treen Farm campsite."

What do you think of this story? Have you been to Pedn Vounder before?
