This hidden gem is one of the most unique spots in the Yorkshire Dales, surrounded by stunning scenery, and includes a famous cove that appeared in Harry Potter!
This charming village in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales looks like it’s come straight out of a storybook, with some of the most breathtaking natural landmarks in the area.
It's nestled among impressive limestone formations that draw visitors year-round, and is an enormous curved cliff that looks like a natural amphitheatre, shaped by Yorkshire’s iconic limestone.
Standing about 260 feet tall, Malham Cove once hosted a powerful prehistoric waterfall.
This giant cliff, formed along the Middle Craven Fault, has been sculpted over millions of years by water and ice.
On top of the cove is a unique limestone pavement, with a distinctive pattern created by natural erosion.
Harry Potter fans might recognise Malham Cove from Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part One, where it was used as a setting in the seventh film.
In the film, Harry and Hermione visit the cove after separating from Ron. They spend the night on the cliff, trying to solve Professor Dumbledore’s mysterious clues.
For any Harry Potter fan, a trip to Malham Cove is a must.
With the beautiful Dales hills surrounding it, the top of the cliff provides a fantastic view of the village below.
Reaching the cliff takes about a 30-minute walk from the village centre. But Malham has more to offer, as just northeast of the village lies Gordale Scar – a true gem of the Dales.
Remember - LeaveNoTrace!
As with anywhere outdoors, kindly keep these areas pristine and wild by taking all trash with you. The amount of complaints we have seen since the pandemic is crazy. It's really not that hard to take your rubbish with you!
Litter tends to spread, so if you see any and are able to pick it up and dispose of it outside the hidden gem, it will help keep the area tidy.
