Discover the secret quarry with its emerald pool nestled near a famous pub

With its stunning pool, this spot offers both a scenic walk and a refreshing swim—and you can enjoy a cosy drink afterwards as a reward.

For those looking for a true hidden gem to explore over the weekend, there’s a spot tucked away in a peaceful and picturesque corner of the UK that you’ll want to add to your list right away.

Just a short distance from one of Wales' most unique pubs lies a hidden quarry in the beautiful Preseli Hills.

Although its population is under 400 according to the latest census, this small village draws visitors from around the world.

This popularity is thanks to the breathtaking views, invigorating trails, and the historic Tafarn Sinc pub in the village centre, which always impresses first-time visitors.

A brief walk from this traditional inn along a dusty path leads to another wonder—Rosebush Quarry.

Opened in 1842 and later expanded by businessman Edward Cropper in the 1870s, the quarry was once a major source of slate across the UK.

Today, the water-filled quarry is a hidden gem for countryside walkers and those brave enough for a chilly outdoor swim, as long as they follow safety precautions.

Part of its charm is its hidden location; it’s not a place you’d stumble upon by chance.

For wild swimmers, a reminder: the water is surprisingly deep and often very cold, even on warmer days. Its beauty is enchanting, but you can also enjoy it by simply sitting on the edge and taking in the view.

Adding to the charm is knowing that, despite the remote feel, you’re only a short walk from one of Wales' best pubs—a perfect spot to warm up after your walk or swim.

Remember - LeaveNoTrace!

As with anywhere outdoors, kindly keep these areas pristine and wild by taking all trash with you. The amount of complaints we have seen since the pandemic is crazy. It's really not that hard to take your rubbish with you!

Litter tends to spread, so if you see any and are able to pick it up and dispose of it outside the hidden gem, it will help keep the area tidy.
